Short Bio:

Galina Besstremyannaya worked in CEFIR in 2006-2007. In September 2010 received PhD in economics (Keio University, Tokyo) and started working in CEFIR since October 2010. She initially worked in New Economic School as RA in GET project (2001-2003); as invited expert for TASIS project (2001); as researcher in Independent Institute for Social Policy (2002-2006); as expert in the Center for Strategic Research (2006-2007).

Graduated from Moscow State University in 1998; from New Economic School with MA in economics in 2001; from the postgraduate school of CEMI RAS with degree Candidate of sciences in economics in 2005; from Keio University (Tokyo) with degree PhD in Economics in 2010.

Knows Japanese fluently (Japanese language proficiency test, 1 level).

On June 1, 2011 Galina Besstremyannaya gave a lecture, «The impact of Japanese hospital financing reform on hospital efficiency» as a guest speaker at the seminar series at Hitotsubashi University, Institute of Economic Research (Tokyo)

On June 8, 2011 she was an invited guest at Keio University Graduate School of Economics seminar by Professor Kohei Komamura and Professor Atsuhiro Yamada.

On July 13, 2011 she gave a talk «The Impact of Japanese Hospital Financing Reform on Hospital Efficiency: A Matching Estimator Approach» at the 8th World Congress of International Health Economics Association (Toronto).

In September 2011 she participated in the 20th European Workshop on Econometrics and Health Economics at University of York (UK).

On June 13, 2012 she presented her paper «The Effect of Coinsurance Rate on the Demand for Healthcare: a Natural Experiment in Japan» at the 4th Biennial Conference of American Society of Health Economists (Minneapolis).

She was a member of Scientific Committee for the 9th European Conference on Health Economics (Zurich University, Switzerland). On July 19, 2012 she gave a talk «The effect of coinsurance rate on the demand for health care: a natural experiment in Japan» at the conference.

She was an invited speaker at the Economic seminar series at University of North Carolina Charlotte and gave a talk «Japanese inpatient prospective payment system» on August 24, 2012.

She was an invited speaker at the Economic seminar at Hitotsubashi University, Institute of Economic Research (October 23, 2012). On October 31, 2012 she gave a lecture at Keio University.

Since April 2014, she will be a visiting scholar at Stanford University, Department of Economics.
